I had to live with ... ( 1 week ago by TuesdaysJustAsBad)
I had to live with a kid with Assburger syndrome for the first two months of my college career. Two issues arise from that. A) How did he get into a college with Asperger's, dyslexia, and Keppler's Truency Syndrome? B) Why was he put in a room with 3 other normal people? He chronically masturbated, with us in the room next to him, chronically lied, and was unable to understand any form of sarcasm. There are people who should just not be part of society, and he was one of them.

Dude, that's so not true. I have Aspergers Syndrome, and I don't do that shit. Although, i'm a loner, i have no friends, but i don't give a damn, i'm a classical guitarist, and I just live with music as a friend.

my freind had a boyfreind I thought was aloof. He didn't listen to her and didn't seem to care yet he was very good at his job. I thought he was not really in love with her because she's fat but turns out he has asbergers. The amazing thing is I did some research and he has the same charateristic behaviour as what was written about the disorder. I've read that mental illness comes in variable forms in all humans.

thats a funny commentLol, I'm just going to claim I have this when I don't feel like dealing with people. When i worked for a telemarketing agency (never again) the asian people would answer the phone and when they realized what I was wanted the feigned no speak English.

Thanks for posting this bit. It is good to see someone make it through school to the level you have. I have fought (and usually lost) because of my severely poor short term memory. I have difficulty having conversion sometimes due to forgetting simple words.

TuesdaysJustAsBad There are several reasons; he was put in your room as they thought you would get along, being similar. Also, people who have difficulty making friends often end up sharing rooms, class projects etc. with other similarly unpopular people who no one else wants. Have you considered the possibility that you maybe an Aspie? That's why you only like guitar vids & make insensitive remarks without realising it. Making lists is also a common trait.
i heard people with ... ( 1 week ago by travirissport)
i heard people with this diagnosis have a phenomonal memory, where they can memory chords on a guitar, or piano, or just about anything at the drop of a hat. even though this disorder might not be identical to "the rain man", they do seem to have an extremely verbatum memory of what they see and hear, as when in "rain man" he counted all the matches that fell on the ground. they just have more of a normal capacity for emotions and social contact than rain man to a certain extent.
I have aspergers ... ( 1 week ago by MondoBeno)
I have aspergers and went to college, though undiagnosed at the time. I was able to pass courses, but sometime with low grades. I didn't understand sarcasm well (and likewise they didn't understand mine). People with aspergers aren't necessarily unable to do schoolwork. On the issue of masturbating in public, he needed a serious talk about why that was inappropriate. I knew not to do that in fron of people. It may have been hard for him, being alone while people around him were pairing off.

Tell a friend:

I knew I was different from the age of about 6 years old, hypotheses included the reincarnation of King David or Pliny the Elder, a left behind Space Alien and finally mild autism. Other pupils were loud and ran around randomly, while I preferred a mature intellectual life. I became interested in astronomy/science ~3 years old, so I'm told, it that made me stand out in school. I later became fascinated by mineralogy. I was bullied badly because I was odd, sometimes beaten up, for years. Bullying mostly stopped in secondary school as I found a group to hang around with.
In 1987, at 14, I went to an astronomy lecture, but due to the excitement of it all I had a panic attack and I had to leave (a panic attack over astronomy?). This began over a decade of anxiety & panic attacks and increased reclusiveness, which I completely overcame in 1998. Perhaps due to my bad experience with Astronomy, I turned to Mineral collecting.
One of isolating aspects of Asperger's is, we tend to talk at people not with people. However, in 1998, I did a 6 week geological mapping project with a friend, and I every hour or so we would sit and chat. After 4 weeks, our conversations became two way. While this was an improvement, it also led to my growing sense oddness. This processes I am told, is called gaining insight, some young adults with Asperger's try to transition from the basic social skills of childhood, to the more sophisticated social skills of adult life, but fail.
A diagnosis was a great relief, I felt better about myself and understood myself more, I didn't need to be normal so badly (that ever that is). I set up a social group in 2002, made many good friends and found a girlfriend though the group. I find people with Asperger's (I have met aver 100) are all extremely kind and interesting people. My social skills have improved allot. I finished my Phd a few months ago and I am now looking forward to joining my girlfriend in New Zealand next year.
I graduated with a PhD in geology in 2008.
