| I am not old enough to have experienced the war, thank heavens, but i have spoken to many people who went through it, and quite frankly it scared me rigid what they had to endure, and with little regard for their own safety.If any one reading this was there, Thank You. |

| My Granddad was only ten when the War ended, he told me what it was like during the air raids and other Granddad was the Army in Italy as a cook. My great-granddad was PoW. It was really bad that all those innocent people perished and so many old buildings were lost. And I agree with fedupworking's comment these firefighters were the REAL heroes. |

| Innocent people on both sides suffered terribly. The British and Canadians bombed and fire bombed Hamburg with phosphorous killing hundreds of thousands of people. |

| Fireman did a fantastic job. My great aunt worked in Commercial Road. The sceans she witnessed made her shudder. Her Brother joined Bommber Command to get the Bastards back. Sadley he was killed attacking a tank park behind the Normandy beaches. |

| Hi My great, great grandparents were living in North London. Even though Dartmouth Park was outisde of the main bombing area, it was still in London and I cant imagine their fears as they survived the war as elderly people. |

| My mother survived as a child in Sunderland, 3rd worst bombed city in England as it was the major ship building town. They made the casings for the "Tall Boys" (bombs used in the Dam Busters) because ammunition factories couldn't make casing large enough. Mom tells me how she was on the beach (air siren's rang) & she could see all the German bombers coming over North Sea. She threw herself at bottom of shack only to hear metal rubbing and anti-aircraft guns start booming. Alot for a 9 yr old! |
