I find it ironic that Tex didn't think a child wouldn't laugh at his cartoons yet decades later children laughed, as did I.

Exactly. I began to watch cartoon netwrok when I was about 10, and the funniest cartoons were the ones that did not treat the viewer as a child, but rather as an adolecent kid.

I grew up on Warner Bros, and liked it when they didn't pull punches or go for the easy gag. I also watched action cartoons closely to see if they, for once, actually dealt with mature problems and situations, and celebrated when subjects like death were actually dealt with. I was tired of being treated like I couldn't handle it.
There should always be a place for mature entertainment, and that doesn't just mean sexuality.
