Anyone who tries to change another countries views or cultural traditions is interfering with a natural order for that country. As an American I'll be the first to say that yes we're hypocrites because we circumcise our baby boys, but it's the parent's choice.

women who are not circumcised don't develop infections as easily. Its natural to be born the way you're born and if you want to defend the sexist acts that originated from males and not be strong enough to be a women and have your own rights then fine, but saying that about uncircumcised women just lets everyone know how ignorant you are.

my baby was circumcised, but not like this. If a woman is "cut" she should be offered a numbing agent at the very least. I think the biggest thing is, this is inhumane and the girls don't want it done to them. Now, my son is a year old and I do not plan to circumcise any children I have in the future. After more research I feel horrible for doing it to my son, its cosmetic... thats it. Not to say that it's always bad, I just think it should be a choice.

Circumcision for a girl is different though. For the boys it is just the foreskin, for a woman, it involves cutting off the whole clitoris. And with all the nerve endings in it, I can't even imagine the pain they are subjected to.

Circumcising baby boys is just as barbaric, and anesthesia is seldom used. The USA still circumcises about 65% of its male newborns. How many people here can view the circumcision of a baby boy, e.g. on Youtube, without feeling disgusted and nauseous? Europeans (except Jews/Moslems) don't subject our babies to the pointless trauma of circumcision. Btw, the USA has a higher incidence of HIV than ANY European nation. USA is a nation of unfit parents!

Izzy, have you WATCHED a baby boy being circumcised? I have! And if you haven't, I suggest you view one or more videos of it on Youtube - these are real life circumcisions in US hospitals (or synagogues). Then you will have a right to your opinion. I would like to hear back from you when you have. Male circumcision done "in the bush" in Africa is not only painful but risky.

babyshaker, then you should be advising women to remove THEIR foreskin (clitoral hood and inner labia) too! Actually, women suffer five times as many urogenital infections as men do (whether the guy is intact or genitally mutilated), so following your own logic, trimming back the vulva should reap greater benefits. Google "foreskin function" (or anatomy) before you mutilate your own sons.

I strongly suspect that there is only one sex act that passes AIDS/HIV - being on the receiving end of anal sex (there is a strong correlation between where anal sex is an okay form of birth control and where it is taboo and the spread of HIV/AIDS in women in Africa). There are other ways to get/pass the disease (needles, blood transfusions, etc), but as far as sex goes, that's it . . .

Well, with FGM the women are losing their sensitivity to feel sexual pleasure. I've seen that Male circumcism makes it more sensitive to sexual pleasure. And also most male circumcism is done medically, and at birth. There are alot of differences between both types of circumcises.

The researchers found that the circumcised group of women experienced sexual arousal and orgasm as frequently as the intact group (study based on 1836 women). It indicates that FGM is unjustifiable (sexual activity not reduced!) Obviously (anatomically) circumcised men and women have lost sexual POTENTIAL.
