He didn't adopt "Ashkenazi" Judaism, but a form of the modern, liberal German Judaism influenced by gentile ritual as you describe. I don't think his "giur" was Halachic, and he certainly has not cared to teach his congregation about true Sabbath observance. In short, he's crossed a line but gotten stock on the fence. He's still not truly Jewish, and no-longer just a "Black Israelite".

This is not Judaism. He's mixing Jewish practices with Black nationalism that has nothing to do with Jewish beliefs. Does he follow the "Sheva Mitzvot Bene Noah"? What about "Taharot Mishpacha"? Does he prohibit his congregants from getting tattoos? Does he shave with a regular razor or an electric one? Does he check to make sure his clothes don't contain linen and wool? Judaism isn't an easy religion to follow.
