Malaysia's Internal Security Act or ISA has its roots in the 1950s, when the country, then under British colonial rule, was fighting a Communist insurgency.
Almost six decades on and the Communist threat has gone but the law remains.
Opponents say many of the act's original checks and balances have been eroded over the years and the ISA is now being used to stifle political dissent.
But the government says the law is a necessary tool in the pursuit of social stability.
Aloke Devichand reports on those fighting to have the ISA abolished once and for all.

hedaiki..USA also have ISA but they call it anti terrorist law but its still the same i.e to detain people without trial.They use this law to detain people all over the world in Guantanamo

I think People who had been detained by ISA are with reasons, each & every of them, Study the case. To some they are afraid of the law.. why we must be afraid of the law if we dun do anything wrong? unless... Malaysia has been a peacefull country for so long. but Someone who just came out of jail has stage alot of chaos in my country because of his ambition to be the premier. All this chaos is created and suported by involvedby Anwar Ibrahim himself to destabalize our peacefull country

Malaysia is not Indonedia-economic downfall, Thailand - bombs e'day, Philipines - fighting the rebels, Mynmar - junta country. We are much more better than them in terms of economic, racial, peace n harmony It doesnt matter if its Tun , Paklah, Najib, Nik Aziz, Abdul Hadi Awang who rule the country but never Anwar. They are detained because they created chaos in the city, and ignoring police warning to disperse in a rally which has no permit, purpose and creating un-easyness among other malaysians. & this is supported by Anwar Ibrahim. One of its flaws is ISA and represive system of governance (which has slowly started changing after March 8 elections). To some people who are afraid of the LAW then i guess u should work hard to take over the goverment, abolish the law. I would like to see the changes too. Rather than bitching around saying this is not right and that is not right. A lot of dirty tactics can be used to win, such as how PR took over Penang (my hometown) by promising to give money for thoose who vote for them when they win. Yes they did win but money wasnt given due to insufficient funds. (is this money politics or lies?)

I hit out to the opposition and people hitting me personally. like thay cant accept that not everybody gonna love or make love with Anwar like they do. The country is ruled by Barisan Nasional an elected goverment through democratic process. The voice of majority has spoken and choosen a leader.
