Marilyn Monroe
Down in the Meadow
Lyrics
When Mr South Wind sighs in the pines,
old Mr Winter whimpers and whines.
Down in the meadow, under the snow,
April is teaching green things to grow.
When Mr West Wind howls in a glade,
old Mr Summer nods in the shade.
Down in the meadow, deep in the brook,
catfish are waiting for the hook.
Old Lady Blackbird flirts with the scarecrow,
scarecrow is waving at the moon.
Old Mr Moon makes hearts everywhere go bump, bump,
with the magic of June.
When Mr East Wind shouts over head,
then all the leaves turn yellow and red.
Down in the meadow corn stocks are high
pumpkins are ripe and ready for pie.
Old Lady Blackbird flirts with the scarecrow,
scarecrow's waving at the Moon.
Old Mr Moon makes hearts everywhere go bump-bump
with the magic of June.
When Mr North Wind rolls on the breeze,
old father Christmas trims over trees.
Down in the meadow snow shoftly gleams
earth goes to sleep and smiles in her dreams.

back then??? you make it seem like it was a million years ago!
fact: The boy was a natural blonde himself!, he was the kid who played Jeff on "Jeffs Collie" the first TV Lassie series, before "Timmy and Lassie".

was long hair daggy back then? all the women seemed to have short hair... including Marilyn. i think maybe short hair was seen as sexier on women just as long hair is now.

Many women did also have long hair, but the "pageboy" hairstyle was the most popular in the 40's and 50's, particularly for older women. In Marilyn's earlier films from the late 40's (check out her song numbers from 'Ladies Of The Chorus') she has longer hair, and in The Prince And The Showgirl and The Misfits, Marilyn also wears wig pieces.

Love this song of Marilyn's. She is so lovely, warm and charming. Sadly, there weren't more of movies which showed this side of her. I also love Bus Stop. She should have won an Oscar for the performance. Forget about her "hair". She looks great!

I think it might have been live, since the official recorded version (the one that's on most of her CDs) sounds a bit different...

I like how they let her actually play the guitar. I thought they would just make her sit there with the guitar as they always attempt to make her look "stupid" for the 50s male attraction.

this is such a lovely movie on so many levels: marilyn and robert, great man/female combination. there is only one other combination just as great, and that is gloria graham and robert. these girls were dynamite.
What I like about ... ( 6 months ago by geode00)
What I like about this film is this part was filmed along the Athabasca River area in Jasper Alberta, 1952. Marilyn and crew stayed at the Jasper Park Lodge for part of their time when not also filming in Banff.
My father worked at the 'Lodge' and said there were very boisterous parties cast-parties which took place at the Jasper Park Lodge at the time. Marilyn was apparently just as radiantly beautiful in person as on film.
Long live Canada - for filming! Happy Canada

Agree. Why or how Monroe was overlooked for her portrayal of Cherie in BUS STOP seems to rank up there w/ no nom. for Doris Day in LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME, ( one of HER best screen performances), AND Judy Garlands LOSS, (to Grace Kelly of all folks!), in 1954 for Garlands' A STAR IS BORN. All Standout roles, films, &c. w/ the finest outcomes. Now 'the Academy' seems to hand 'em out for automobile explosions' ,..." and the winner is...."

The movie was set in the 1870s when most women would have had long hair so she wears a hairpiece. She also wore one in 'The prince and the showgirl' as its set in 1911.
