| Eh I think this is ok, but Johnny Cash's version really hit me. Cash is just a master of the song... very pure, very simple, and he gets the message across. I dunno this song sounds too busy... all sorts of sound effects and alterations. Cash is just much cleaner. |

| Johnny Cash did a version that was very Johnny Cash. Clean and straight. It was good. Unfortunately, it seemed to miss the point. This song is supposed to be a paranoid rant by someone whose mind is slowly leaving him as he rots in jail. It's supposed to be confused, jumbled, rushed and chaotic. Johnny's version also overlooks the blasphemy inherent in the lyrics (the idea of a vicious murderer thinking he's the Son of God). |

| I think YOU'RE missing the point. Cash never took any song literally... Mercy Seat was allegorical anyone can relate to it distortion of the truth, finding salvation, not being afraid to die, I believe this is a deeply religious song. |
