| And here I was thinking oubliee means dungeon in english and that was the one being applied. The french meaning is applicable too though. What I really don't understand is why all these composers wrote titles in french despite being russian/hungarian etc. |

| It was very much more common than any other language. If you didn't at least speak french as a second language, you really wouldn't know what's happening in the world. The reason, my friend, is the enlightenment. Everything controversial and interesting was happening in france, what with the ideas spreading, the revolutionaries, and the great composers such as debussy. I don't want to sound like a smart ass for saying all this, but i thought it would be considerate to put down. |
