This handy instructional video will show you how to hook up an Atari 2600 to a modern VCR. We show what wires to use with the Atari 2600. We show how to hookup an Atari 2600 and 7800 to a tv or television with modern video inputs like component, s-video and composite (you'll use composite) and or RF Coax. We show what Radio Shack equipment to buy to make it work. Classic Game Room loves Atari and all of the great video games that are available from the 1970's to the 1980's. These old school classics should be kept alive and playing for future generations. Just bought a Woody ... ( 1 month ago by rdeco73)
Just bought a Woody on Graigs for $50 and 60 games. I used furniture polish and it looks new. Plugged it in and it plays like new. My PS2 burned out in a year. This 2600 I bought sat in this ladies basement for 20 years. She had no idea they were collectable. This was the best fifty I ever spent. I'm on my tenth hour straight playing Bezerk. Everyone should own a woodgrain2600 for a second time before they die. It's the gen Xers version of the Mustang.

I'm 13 and I think the old games are WAY better than the new ones...The Atari was great, but the NES was much better. =)

Very good instructional video! I knew how to hook one up myself to a modern day tv, but it was still interesting to watch and a good source of information.

For those of you watching this video, I'd just like to mention that I use an RCA to Coax adapter with my Atari and it works flawlessly. Far easier than messing with switch boxes.
Also, he's right about buying a bulk lot of games being easiest. I bought a lot of forty or so Atari 2600 games along with a few systems and controllers at a garage sale, and it really saved me a lot of time compared to going online and locating each game individually.

I have loads of atari consoles but i have a 2600 junior SHORT rainbow and it wont work, but oddly enough it will only play the orignal pacman! Any reason why? i cleaned the connectors and they were pretty clean

Thank You, finally somebody other than me thinks that. I can play old retro games for usually 3-4 hours. The new ones I can play but for only like 30-50 min.
On the rare chance ... ( 1 month ago by daro2096)
On the rare chance you find these at a flea market you will pay about £1 for the console. The last time I saw some Atari 2600 consoles I was able to buy three for £3.00 Just consoles though, it seems the controllers and power supplies are even rarer but maybes it is just the area I am living in.
The Atari Inc. junior models are actually rarer and worth more(that is the models with short rainbow). Atari Corp. released the junior models with the longer rainbow.
Can I also point ... ( 1 month ago by daro2096)
Can I also point out that this won't work in the UK. We use different connectors.
For example the connectors on the back of your VCR, we call them "F" connectors. They are only found on satellite receiver boxes, they take the feed from the LNB on the satellite dish.
So people the information in this video is only good if you live in the USA.
Oh by the way there ... ( 1 month ago by daro2096)
Oh by the way there are some 2600 games that will not work on a 7800 model. Also I think they later changed the power supply plug to a standard 2600 type.
Atari only produced some 40 games for the 7800, the last one was released in 1992(in Europe). The last 2600 game released by Atari was a Teris clone game in Europe, I think its serial number was CX-26192.

One SIte is the Compsite Jack, the other an odianry TV/RF Jack.
