TOO EXPENSIVE !
The ratio of ... ( 2 months ago by positroniks)
The ratio of construction costs to power generated is no greater than any other conventional system with one exception: The fuel source for a solar tower is free and of virtually infinite supply.

Let's just hope the asteroid doesn't land on a neuclear power plant!

I read about this, ... ( 2 months ago by lookslikepat)
I read about this, plans are being looked at for a few of these in northern Africa.
The biggest problem they have with it is that the panels will be sandblasted to nothing in a few weeks, by the Sahara sand. Other than that it seems good.
En realidad es una ... ( 1 month ago by pelicanodechile)
I really like this project.

I always wonder if anyone behind these solar tower schemes has considered the effect on the local environment of pumping hot air into the atmosphere 1 kilometre up?

So um, how well does this thing run at night.
I love reading all ... ( 1 month ago by wolffhollow)
I love reading all the Anti-american, leftist and moronic comments. All you 'tards that have fallen for the 'man made global warming' lie...HAHAH...yea, the first thing the UN wanted to do was raise a world wide tax...I'm sure those crooks in the UN had every intention of using the billions of dollars to end global warming!!! And watch out for that ol' bogeyman, BIG OIL..it's comin' to getcha!!, Hey will someone invent a car like the Flintsones had! that would solve all our problems! Goobers!
the warm air cools ... ( 1 month ago by beenthere56)
the warm air cools as it goes up the tower, but continues to rise because of the warm air below it pushing it up, which also cools before it exits the tower.
The tower runs very ... ( 1 month ago by beenthere56)
The tower runs very well at night because during the day, the ground below the glass is heated, then it radiates heat back into the air. This allows this solar energy plant to run 24 hours a day.
I understand this ... ( 1 month ago by TommStanley)
I understand this but if the air within the tower cools enough to not impact on the local, natural air temperature then I suspect it would be just as likely to establish a convection current within the tower as opposed to exiting the top.
Now this is babel ... ( 1 month ago by telewebservices)
Now this is babel tower at its best,
Check out maglev wind turbine, Seems a much better idea, I know those solar towers can also desalinate water, That's quite nice, I think we need "power to the people", Meaning lets have the best devices back home in our garden, New designs has no noise, Electricity next door doesnt loose efficency, POWER TO THE PEOPLE, no more babel babel.
Look up "Passive ... ( 1 month ago by caucazoidandroid)
Look up "Passive House" on Wikipedia. Even if you don't believe in Global Warming, cutting your energy bill by 90% would still be a good idea, especially considering that we are running out of affordable energy.
Are they really ... ( 1 month ago by caucazoidandroid)
Are they really going to build this thing? I assume they would do it in the Aussie desert. And I wonder how much energy gets lost in transmission? Also, it seems like such an eyesore, but I guess anything is better than another coal plant...
???????? question ... ( 1 month ago by nickoswoos)
???????? question here; um i presume obviously its the flow of hot air down a tempreture gradiant that drives the turbines yes? and that the glass at the base traps air to heat it at the ground radiation tempreture, ect ect... it all seems good, BUT, if someone could tell me, where does new air enter the system without the currently heated air being released???
This is probably my ... ( 3 weeks ago by seesawmcgraw)
This is probably my favorite energy idea but wtf is with the trains/elevator things that take people to the top really doesn't that kind of make it less effective i mean it would increase cost and use energy
theres a full model ... ( 3 weeks ago by RX7GLORY)
theres a full model of this concept in the game "Armored Core 4".
not sure if this is ... ( 3 weeks ago by RX7GLORY)
not sure if this is what ur asking, but the "new" air enters at the ends of the solar panels. the air flows up the tower not down.
Yeah, I noticed ... ( 2 weeks ago by shiroineko13)
Yeah, I noticed that as well. It was kinda neat I recognized it after only seeing it once on a physics paper test.
I was wondering ... ( 2 weeks ago by deathwalker00)
I was wondering about this too. i believe during day air flows up out the tower, then at night the gradient is reversed as air below has a much lower pressure, and so air above flows from higher pressure to low. I'm not positive about this though
i think "new" air ... ( 5 days ago by weakpw)
i think "new" air enters at the edge of the "glass roof" i don't think it reaches to the ground
